          WW II

WORLD WAR II

WWII was most definitely a defining era in the history of the world.  It was the most destructive, devastating war in history.  In America, WWII changed the lives of everyone physically, mentally, and financially.  With the men going off to war for so many years, women and children had to fend for themselves.  The men going off to fight were leaving everything familiar to them and had no idea what was up ahead for them.  Everyone’s faith and spirit was tested and retested.  Everyone had to sacrifice and I mean sacrifice.

WWII had many factors, many uncertainties, but one thing was never questioned.  That was, why this war had to be won…..Freedom.

Freedom Reigns is all about the process of winning and how it came about.  It tells of the hardships of not just those in America, but around the world.  It’s impossible to read Freedom Reigns and not realize how devastating war is and feel compassion for all everyone lived through.  Winning WWII took billions and billions of people working together all over the world.  People of color and nationality came together for the betterment of all, freedom for all.  They had to endure more than they believed they could handle.  In fact, they endured more than anyone thought the human psyche or human body could handle.  But freedom was at stake.  Freedom wasn’t just a word or an idea, it was the ultimate and only way of life for every human being, the only acceptable way of life.

Each time our servicemen liberated a town or country, there were celebrations in the streets.  The people were so happy to be free, (many who had not known freedom for many years).  They offered our men wine, fresh baked bread, hugs, and kisses.  They danced and sang.  The people had been living as quietly as possible so as not to be noticed by the SS or Hitler's troops.  Now they shouted at the top of their voices....that alone was a wonderful feeling.  In one country after another Freedom Reigns.

WWII changed everyone’s life.  In America, we have had almost 63 years of freedom.  The price of freedom doesn’t come cheap.  It meant a lot of rebuilding after the war.  It meant a lot of families living with the fact that loved ones died in battle far from home.  And it meant many families had to learn to cope with no father in the house.  Most orphans never got over the loss of their father and live the rest of their lives with a black hole in their heart.  Many of the young wives remarried but it wasn’t easy to get past having a dream with the man they loved and have it ripped away in an instant.  It wasn’t easy raising children on their own and having to work to support them.

At the end of the war, people were celebrating in the streets.  The thought that freedom reigns, they were safe again, and their loved ones were coming home was an electrifying, deliriously happy time.  The elderly certainly realized what it all meant and the children just knew everyone was having a great time.  They were more than happy to join in.  Families couldn't wait to see their loved ones again.  There was hope in their hearts again.....hope for a wonderful future.  There were a lot of changes about to take place all across the US.  Freedom reigns.......liberty reigns.

We, in the United States, have deemed all those who fought during WWII as the “ Greatest Generation”.  They are to be honored for all they endured for our freedom.  Many years have passed and it is only now, that the “greatest generation”, are in their elder years that they realized their stories needed to be told.  We are now hearing, in great detail, the answers to many of our questions we have had ever since WWII.  What happened in the war was not something our servicemen wanted to remember, nor talk about.  But now they realize what they know should not go to the grave with them.  It can be helpful in the future to know everything there is to know, to protect against anything like that ever happening again.  Respect and honor should be shown them, as it was because of them you live in freedom.

Yes, Freedom Reigns.  Please visit the page “Freedom Reigns” and read about my book of my personal story as the daughter of a pilot who never returned and how it affected my life.  There are thousands of war orphans and each of us could write each other’s stories.  We deserved to know the truth.  Our fathers deserved to have their stories told.  “Freedom Reigns” doesn’t just tell my story and my fathers, but it tells a lot about WWII, our troops, and how to research as well as where to research military documents of your loved ones.
